Two powertrain combinations are available: a 210-hp 4.0-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission is standard on all trims, while a 292-hp 4.6-liter V8 engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission is optional on the Limited. Sport Trac XLT trims are well-equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, satellite radio and MP3 capability; Limited trims are further outfitted with 18-inch chrome-clad wheels, side step bars, hard tonneau cover, heated front seats, leather upholstery, upgraded audio and the SYNC communication system with Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Although the Ford doesn't ooze the feeling of quality and refinement that the Honda does, that price differential should be enough to make a lot of potential buyers forget they ever needed an underfloor trunk.

Neither the Ridgeline nor the Colorado offers a V8. So Ford's addition of an uplevel, single overhead cam V8 that can generate 300 lb-ft of torque at 3950 rpm is a good idea.

The Sport Trac does little to distinguish itself, and we find few reasons to pick it over the other choices in the segment.
